Do you need a permit in Williamsburg?

On your own driveway or private lot, no right-of-way permit applies.

The City of Williamsburg's code (Chapter 9, Article X) requires a use permit for public rights-of-way, and the City posts a right-of-way permit application on its Forms & Documents page. Contact the City before placing a dumpster on a city street.

James City County and York County roads are maintained by VDOT, so containers in those road rights-of-way fall under VDOT's land use permit rules.
